چکیده

When routing data across a network from one source to one destination, instead of following a fixed path, one can choose to spread data on several routes in order to use all potential ressources of the network. This issue has been studied for many models of networks with various objectives to optimize. In this paper we investigate how to route a flow across a network of servers with end-to-end performance guarantees in the framework of Network Calculus. We discuss stability issues (i.e. whether we can ensure that end-to-end delays are bounded) for arbitrary networks, and how to compute bounds on worst-case end-to-end delays and backlogs. The tightness issues are discussed on a small but challenging toy example.

The Feedback Based Mechanism for Video Streaming Over Multipath Ad Hoc Networks

Ad hoc networks are multi-hop wireless networks without a pre-installed infrastructure. Such networks are widely used in military applications and in emergency situations as they permit the establishment of a communication network at very short notice with a very low cost. Video is very sensitive for packet loss and wireless ad-hoc networks are error prone due to node mobility and weak links. H...

Smart Multipath Capacity Aggregation for High Quality Video Streaming

We present an end-to-end scheme to aggregate a diversity of wired or wireless network paths in an application content-aware manner. The objective is to realize a virtual pipe abstraction that offers high capacity, low perceived jitter and low perceived loss for video streaming. The scheme called “Smart Multipath Capacity Aggregation (SMCA)” uses elementary information about the video stream (eg...

An Energy-Efficient, Cross Layer Approach for Time-Critical Applications in Underwater Sensor Networks

The Ocean remains the least explored frontiers. Many oceanic and marine applications seen relatively slow in exploiting the state of the art info-communication technologies. Acoustic communications is the most promising mode of communication underwater. Because of high error rate and long propagation delay of the acoustic channel, it is difficult to provide energy efficient communication. We pr...

Adaptive Control of Out-of-Sequence Packet Arrival for Optimization of Bandwidth Aggregation of Heterogeneous Communication Links

Multipath transmission of flows over heterogeneous communication channels faces numerous challenges in optimally utilizing combined communication resources for ubiquitous applications. One major issue is the out-of-sequence arrival of packets at receiver that commonly amplifies while distributing packets of a flow over multiple paths. These packets experience asymmetric path characteristics tha...

Generalizing Network Calculus Analysis to Derive Performance Guarantees for Multicast Flows

Guaranteeing performance bounds of data flows is an essential part of network engineering and certification of networks with real-time constraints. A prevalent analytical method to derive guarantees for end-to-end delay and bu↵er size is Deterministic Network Calculus (DNC). Due to the DNC system model, one decisive restriction is that only unicast flows can be analyzed. Previous attempts to an...
